DeForest Buckner is returning to the team that drafted him 7th overall 10 years ago, the San Francisco 49ers. Indy continues their fire sale by removing another veteran player on the last year of his contract. Buckner spent his first 4 seasons in San Francisco before being traded to the Colts, where he has spent the past 6 years of his career. Buckner is 32 years old in his 11th NFL season.

### Why This Works For Indianapolis…

Having already traded Quenton Nelson today, Buckner was another contender to get shipped out of Indianapolis. He was in the last year of a 2 year, 46 million dollar deal, which means if the Colts kept him past the deadline, he'd be a free agent after this season. Indy, currently in the middle of a rebuild, probably doesn't want to extend a 32 year old DT or keep him until the season is over just to have a losing record, miss the playoffs, then miss out on a return for that player. A 4th round pick is pretty low considering the talent Buckner has, but still a solid move for the Colts.

### Why This Works For San Francisco…

The 49ers are a top 5 team in the NFL right now, however they did just suffer their first loss of the year to the Atlanta Falcons. San Fran looks well on their way to the playoffs, and adding Buckner will add some firepower to the front line. And considering the fact that the Niners only got Buckner for a fourth round pick - absolute steal!

### Who Wins?

The Indianapolis Colts lose their second trade of the day in my opinion, both for the same reasons. The idea of moving off these veteran star players on the last year of their contracts make sense, but get more out of them! On the day, the Colts gave up Quenton Nelson and DeForest Buckner for a third, fourth and fifth round pick. The Colts are gonna continue to trade, I just hope they get more out of their players.
